New Local Books
Kansas Irish by
Charles B. Driscoll
This book was originally published in 1943. It was the first of three books that depicted the life of an Irish Immigrant family coming to the Wichita area in 1878. They ended up buying a farm just south of town, so the book gives insights into farming life, city life and many details of Wichita history. The book is very well written as the author was a reporter and, later, editor for many years working for the Wichita Eagle, as well as newspapers in Omaha, Nebraska and New York City. He graduated from Lewis Street Academy and Friends University.
The other two books in the series of three will also be published in the coming months. The second provides a look into life in the various schools around Wichita, while the third gives great insight into the social life and political forces at work in Wichita, Omaha.
Wichita's Riverside Parks
The author, James E. Mason, came in recently and signed some copies for us to sell. We really enjoyed visiting with him about the Riverside Zoo and Ackerman Island.
Children's Area Remodeled
We have added new bookcases in the children's area. It looks so nice that we are considering remodeling the front counter area! Come in and enjoy the view... and the books.
Mystery and Science Fiction areas have been been increased in size and number of books and the Horror titles have been separated into a new section (both harcovers and paperback).
